LONDON, March 15 (Xinhua) -- Manchester City striker Erling Haaland may be slightly disappointed at not being the first player to ever score a double hat-trick of six goals in a Champions League game, but the Norwegian is still making history.
His five goals in Manchester City's 7-0 destruction of RB Leipzig on Tuesday night made him the quickest and youngest player to score 30 goals in the competition, with 33 goals in 25 appearances.
"I told him, I would love to score a double hat-trick but what can we do?," said 22-year-old Haaland over Pep Guardiola's decision to substitute him with around half an hour to play.
Asked after the game what his "super-strength" was, the striker had no doubt over his ability. "I think that after scoring five goals I have to say scoring goals," he replied.
"A lot of goals today I didn't think, I was just doing it. On the penalty (which opened the scoring), I was just trying to get the ball into the back of the net, same with the second goal, same with the third goal, same with every goal."
"I didn't think on every single goal. I think a lot of it is just being quick in the mind and trying to do the right thing, trying to put it where the keeper is not," explained the striker.
As well as becoming only the third player to score five goals in a single Champions League game, after Luis Adriano in October 2014 and Leo Messi in March 2012, Tuesday night also saw Haaland set a record for the most goals scored for Manchester City in a single season.
Even though it is only the middle of March, the 39 goals Haaland has hit since signing from Borussia Dortmund last season broke the previous club record set by Tommy Johnson in 1929.
Among those 39 goals are five hat-tricks, scored against Leipzig and against Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, Manchester United and Wolverhampton in the Premier League, while the 10 goals he has now scored in the Champions League in the season is also a club record for that competition.
