Chinese FM urges China, France to uphold multilateralism, rules of free trade
China and France should champion multilateralism and safeguard the rules of free trade in the face of unilateral bullying that adversely impacts the international order, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said Friday.
Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, made the remarks during talks with French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot.
Mexican president rejects U.S. immigration budget plan
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on Friday rejected U.S. President Donald Trump's proposed immigration policy, including a budget plan that allocates billions for border security and detention facilities.
At her daily briefing, Sheinbaum denounced the U.S. House-approved fiscal plan that includes 170 billion U.S. dollars for immigration enforcement, saying migration should be addressed through cooperation, not repression.
Britain re-establishes diplomatic ties with Syria, pledges support
Syria and Britain officially renewed diplomatic relations on Saturday, marked by British Foreign Secretary David Lammy's visit to Damascus, according to official statements released by both sides.
Syria's foreign affairs authorities said in a statement that during the visit, the British official extended a formal invitation to Syrian foreign affairs chief Asaad al-Shibani to visit London.
Israel to send delegation for indirect talks with Hamas
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed a negotiating team to travel to Qatar on Sunday for talks with Hamas on a ceasefire-hostages deal, Israeli Prime Minister's Office said in a statement Saturday night.
After assessing the situation, Israel accepted the invitation for close talks and continued negotiations for the release of Israeli hostages held in Gaza based on the Qatari proposal that Israel agreed to, according to the statement.
45 Palestinians killed in Israeli attacks across Gaza
At least 45 Palestinians were killed in Israeli attacks in the Gaza Strip on Saturday, amid warnings of a complete collapse of public sectors due to fuel shortages.
In violent attacks, Israeli warplanes fired several missiles at dawn on tents housing displaced people in the al-Mawasi area, west of Khan Younis, in the southern Gaza Strip, according to local sources and witnesses.
Death toll of building collapse in Pakistan's Karachi rises to 17
The death toll from the collapse of a residential building in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi rose to 17 as more bodies were recovered from the debris, a spokesperson of the state-owned rescue organization Rescue 1122 told Xinhua on Saturday morning.
"The life detection equipment indicates that at least 10 people are still alive under the rubble. We're working urgently but carefully to rescue them," Hassaan Ul Haseeb Khan, the operation's spokesperson, told Xinhua from the site.
Monsoon rains kill 66, injure 127 in 10 days across Pakistan
Torrential monsoon rains and flash floods have claimed at least 66 lives and injured 127 others across Pakistan since June 26, the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said on Saturday.
The NDMA confirmed two additional deaths and 10 injuries from rain-related incidents over the past two days, as extreme weather continues to batter parts of the country.
25 dead, two dozen missing in central Texas flooding
At least 25 people had been confirmed dead, and more than 20 girls attending a riverside summer camp were still missing following major flash flooding in central Texas, the United States, authorities reported Friday night.
Kerr County Sheriff Larry Leitha confirmed at a press conference on Friday night that, in addition to the 24 deaths in Kerr County, 23 to 25 girls from Camp Mystic, a private Christian summer camp for girls, were still unaccounted for.
